TEAM DEBATE
December 12, 2019 - Our Class had a Debate event pitting 10 teams of 3 students against each other. The purpose of the debates is to familiarize ourselves with the process of researching and finding facts to support of our position on certain issues. This is also in conjunction with our Opinion Writing assignment! The other benefit is learning how to use strong evidence to present your case and counter-argue effectively to get votes from the audience. Once each side had presented its case, the rest of the class, acting as the jury, voted for the side that has the strongest argument.
Here are the debate prompts and results of class voting.
1. Do police belong in schools? 78% YES - 22% NO
2. Should cell phones be allowed in class? 46% YES - 54% NO
3. Should malls banned teens? 20% YES - 80% NO
4. Should children be allowed to enter beauty pageants? 26% YES - 74% NO
5. Is space exploration worth the money we spend on it? 52% YES - 48% NO
Since we had such a fun time and it was a great learning experience for all... We will do it again in the new year!!!
